Important Notice

Pure vegan food is challenging to find in traditional Japanese restaurants as dashi (fish stock) is fundamental to most dishes. Seek out specialized vegan restaurants in major cities or Buddhist temple cuisine (shōjin ryōri) for authentic vegan Japanese food.
